I aim to engage with you in a deep and fundamental way, fostering an environment of acceptance that allows you a greater sense of freedom and space in which to explore. This is different to everyday relating, where there are outside pressures, judgements, and expected ways of behaving. My attempt is to get as close as I possibly can to your experience of yourself and your world; help you to look at how you respond to it and what you might want to do about it.
Typically, in a session, I encourage exploration of what your current concern is, providing a space to help you examine your experiences and sharing what I notice. For example, I may become aware of something being communicated in your voice-tone, eye-contact or body language that you are not yet consciously aware. By raising your awareness of this expression you can see it in a new light. I may notice that I am reacting in a particular way to something that you are saying or doing which may shed some light on the situation. All this helps you to see what is happening for you in a clearer way, allowing you more choice in the way you manage it.
I work both short-term and longer term depending on the needs of the situation. I do suggest an initial one-off session before you make a commitment, to gain a taster of the way I work and if therapy with me is suitable. I believe that it is important as a prospective client that you find a therapist that you believe is suitable for your needs. There is a fee of £35 for this session. I am an experienced counsellor having qualified in 1999. I have an M.A. in Gestalt Therapy Theory Studies at the Gestalt Centre in London. I am also an experienced Counselling Tutor, being the Director of Study for Counselling at Bexhill College and a Tutor on the Advanced Diploma in Integrative Therapy at Northbrook College, Worthing. I am a visiting Tutor at St Michael’s Hospice in St. Leonard’s-on-Sea. I also facilitate personal development groups and run workshops on various aspects of therapy.
I am a member of the British Association of Counselling and Therapy and abide by their ethical framework of good practice in counselling and psychotherapy.
