Lola Van Mulders - Psychodynamic Therapist

Lola is a psychodynamic psychotherapeutic counsellor who practices open-ended individual therapy at the New Road Psychotherapy Centre.

With a warm and non-judgmental approach, Lola fosters a nurturing environment where individuals can freely explore their emotions, thoughts, and life experiences. She recognises each person's unique journey and tailors her therapeutic approach to address their needs and challenges.

Through psychodynamic psychotherapy, Lola assists her clients in unravelling unconscious patterns, gaining insights into unresolved conflicts, and healing emotional wounds from the past. She firmly believes that by bringing awareness to the unconscious dynamics at play, individuals can better understand themselves and effect positive changes in their lives.

Academic Background:

Lola's innate curiosity about human behaviour propelled her into the realm of formal education in Clinical Psychology, where she obtained both a BSc and an MSc. These academic pursuits allowed her to delve deep into the intricacies of the human psyche.

Her educational journey began in 2012 and has since equipped her with a broad theoretical and practical comprehension of the human experience. Lola believes that past experiences, early relationships, and unconscious processes significantly influence our present behaviour and emotions. This belief motivated her to further enhance her clinical knowledge by pursuing postgraduate training in psychodynamic counselling and psychotherapy (PGDip). Through this training, she gained valuable insights into the profound interplay between the conscious and unconscious mind, laying the foundation for her therapeutic approach.

Relevant Experience:

Lola commenced her professional career in 2017 within a therapeutic community in London, where she supported adults grappling with complex mental health challenges. During this period, she actively engaged in various aspects of the therapeutic community's operation, including individual client support and the facilitation of therapeutic groups. Lola also contributed to service development initiatives and participated in supervisory activities to elevate the quality of care. Since 2021, she has worked as a clinical counsellor in an employee assistance programme, delivering short-term counselling, in-the-moment support, and clinical consultation at an organisational level.

Lola views her journey as a psychotherapeutic counsellor as an ongoing process of growth and learning, enriching the depth of her therapeutic practice. She remains committed to continued education, staying abreast of the latest developments to enhance her therapeutic skills and provide optimal client support. Her professional development includes regular engagement in supervision, both individual and group, as well as her ongoing participation in individual therapy. Notably, Lola embarked on her psychoanalysis journey in 2016 and continues to explore her unconscious material, contributing to her growth as a clinician.
