Alison Sutcliffe Profile head shot

Alison Sutcliffe - Person-Centred Psychotherapist & Relationship Therapist

You

Is life feeling difficult right now?  Maybe you're feeling anxious or down for reasons that are clear e.g. bereavement or trauma…or maybe you’re feeling anxious or down and you’re not quite sure why?  You could be struggling with your relationship with your partner - when our primary relationship is not doing well then we’re not doing well…hence why I also offer Relationship Therapy.

Whatever is happening for you, I have provided a supportive space for many others to find relief from distress and begin living their life to their fullest.

Us

Research states that the relationship between you/ you and your partner and I is key to you getting what you want out of psychotherapy.  Some of our struggles will have been born out of relationships and therefore it is within a therapeutic relationship, that lacks judgement and features warmth and authenticity, where your concerns can be addressed.

My Approach

Across 14 years of person-centred psychotherapy practice I have supported people with a wide range of experiences and concerns such as abuse, anxiety, loss, depression, loneliness, relationship issues, feeling lost or stuck.  My person-centred ethos means that I believe we are all doing our very best to navigate our lives with the resources that we have available to us. I have witnessed time and again how, within a facilitative therapeutic relationship, we can begin to feel relief from distress and begin living life more fully.

Changes that can occur with person-centred therapy include:

◦         your view of, and attitude towards, yourself can change

◦         you can discover new feelings and have new experiences

◦         you can feel more self-determining e.g. a sense of being able to make decisions for yourself based on your own sense of a situation

◦         you can generally feel more confident in your ability to trust yourself

◦         you can experience a greater sense of acceptance and compassion towards yourself and also a deeper connection towards others

I work in an a non-discriminatory and LGBT+ affirmative way.  I am continually informing myself about the breadth of backgrounds and experiences that come together to make each one of us unique.  My aim is to meet you fully regardless of our similarities and differences.

Qualifications & Experience Headlines

I have a Masters in Contemporary Person-Centred Psychotherapy and Applications (Metanoia Institute 2022) and I first qualified back in 2010 via a Diploma in Practitioner Counselling Skills (person-centred approach) ( City Lit 2010).

I work with couples utilising the tried and tested Emotionally Focused Therapy method.

I have special interest in sexual violence and loss.

As well as a busy private practice I also offer psychotherapy, via Survivors Network, to those of us who have experienced sexual violence.

My experience to date, beyond my thriving private practice, includes offering psychotherapy within a variety of charities in addition to facilitating groups within the NHS, colleges and charities.
