MENOPAUSE AND THE MIND

A ONE-DAY WORKSHOP FOR COUNSELLORS/PSYCHOTHERAPISTS WITH DR HELEN BARNABY

Half the population will experience Menopause.

The period around Menopause can be a challenging time for women.

As a GP and TA trained Psychotherapist, my interest lies in bringing together the worlds of Medicine and Therapy to broaden our understanding and approach to this important subject.

In this 1-day workshop, I aim to stimulate our thinking around menopause using a Bio-Psycho- Social model covering:

  • The definition of terms such as - Menopause, Perimenopause, and Premature Menopause.

  • What else may be going on in women’s lives around this time.

  • The part culture and family may play.

  • The role of HRT, antidepressants and alternative treatments.

  • Useful websites for information for ourselves and clients.

We will be using an animation produced by an artist of her own experience of the menopause to help stimulate our small group discussion.

This interactive workshop has been well received previously for its broad content and welcoming, safe space to share experiences and questions.
