Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)

The MBCT courses teaches both meditation and CBT exercises to support us in engaging with the principles that underpin difficult mental states.

It is an eight-week, two-hour course with a different theme and practice each week.
We provide you with a detailed handbook and guided meditation audio files to download for practice.

The National Institute recommended MBCT for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) in 2004. IN 2009 the recommendation was updated and given ‘key priority’ status.

Mindfulness is developed by paying open and compassionate attention to what is going on in your body and mind and the world around us.

Staying in touch in this way from one moment to the next, this shift in awareness may result in seeing things differently, perhaps feeling less stuck, or having more options, more strength and confidence in your possibilities...

The course is designed to help you take better care of yourself and make the most of your life. The majority of people who complete the programme report long-term physical and psychological benefits, such as:

  • better sleep

  • greater energy and enthusiasm for life

  • heightened self-confidence

  • increased ability to cope more effectively with both short and long-term stressful situations.

WHO IS IT FOR?
It has been demonstrated that the programme helps people with various physical and psychological issues. It is not necessary to have a particular health issue to benefit from it.

Even if the primary problem does not change, it is how we relate to and deal with it, that makes everything feel more manageable.

Increasing our awareness enables us to modify our approach to our experiences, allowing us to take greater pleasure in the positive and deal more effectively with the negative. We can see how frequently we miss significant life moments! Our habitual and reflexive responses to events frequently aggravate the original problem!

The practices are available to any of us at any point in our lives when we seek them and are prepared to examine ourselves in depth.

Individuals enrol in mindfulness courses to learn how to manage specific conditions. We have assisted individuals with a variety of issues, including:

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • Sleep disturbance

  • Cardiac disease

  • Chronic pain

  • Elevated blood pressure

  • Headaches

  • Fatigue

  • Cancer and other long - term conditions
