Cheryl Coker - Psychotherapist & Counsellor

Starting therapy can be a daunting prospect but hopefully rewarding and empowering. Many things may lead us to seek help; ongoing struggles, specific difficulties or feeling “stuck”. I offer both long term and short-term therapy. The duration of the work will be determined by your needs and goals, which we will explore together. Therapy has the potential to achieve greater clarity, self-awareness, and acceptance to help navigate life’s challenges and enhance mental health.

Approach:

My training is in Integrative Psychotherapy and Counselling, specifically encompassing psychodynamic, person centred and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT).  Our stories and experiences are unique and this varied experiential and theoretical learning enables the therapeutic work to be tailored to your individual needs. This may involve exploring the past to gain insight into current thoughts and behaviours, relationship dynamics and external pressures.

The strength of the therapeutic relationship is key to the success of the work. I offer a non-judgemental, nurturing, confidential space to facilitate exploration and insight. I believe in a collaborative process and that we all possess the capacity for healing and change but may need help at points in our lives.

I am passionate about working with clients in this open-minded and inclusive practice. I offer support with a variety of presenting concerns including anxiety, depression, abuse, self-harm, relationship difficulties, career/work-based challenges, trauma, stress, and loss. I adhere to the ethical code of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

Background:

Before embarking on a career in psychotherapy I worked in the corporate world understanding and enhancing brand/companies’ cultures and creating strategies for communication/advertising. This experience enabled me to develop strong decision making and creative problem-solving skills. In addition, I mentored and coached employees to develop and flourish in the organisations.
