Isla O’Dwyer - Humanistic Therapeutic Counsellor (BSc Dip)

About me:

I am a qualified therapeutic counsellor (PG Dip) with a degree in Psychology (BSc) from the University of Sussex. I am a registered member of the BACP and work in accordance with its ethical framework, including a strong commitment to confidentiality and professional standards.

My approach:

I understand how daunting it can feel to begin therapy, and I recognise the courage it takes to reach out for support. I aim to offer a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental space where you can explore whatever is causing you pain, discomfort, or where you are seeking greater clarity. There are no right or wrong topics of conversation. If something matters to you, it matters in our work together.

I work in a relational and trauma-informed way, meaning I am mindful of how past experiences may shape your present and place importance on creating a sense of safety, trust, and empowerment within the therapeutic relationship. My hope is that, through our work, you can develop a deeper connection to yourself, a greater sense of meaning, and an improvement in your overall wellbeing.

My practice is predominantly person-centred, with sessions led by you and guided at a pace that feels right. Where appropriate, I may draw on other therapeutic approaches and/or offer psychoeducation to best support your individual needs and experiences.

Some of my experience includes (but is not limited to) working with: Anxiety, Depression, Grief and loss, Low Self-Esteem, Identity, Sexuality, Anger, Loneliness, Relationship difficulties and Adverse Childhood Experiences

My practice is non-discriminatory and affirming of LGBTQ+ and neurodiverse individuals
