Iwona Munia - Trainee Group Analyst

Hi, I’m Iwona, and I am training to become a Psychotherapist in Group Analytic Approach.

I believe that group psychotherapy offers us a unique opportunity to explore and understand interpersonal dynamics, revisit our familiar patterns of being with others and see ourselves through the eyes of others. We all have had an experience of belonging and/ or not belonging to a group, and the powerful feelings that this brings. Our experiences of groups and communities (families, friendship groups, school, work etc.) shape our ability to create meaningful relationships with others.

A group therapy setting creates a safe space where we can look closely at our patterns of relating to others and why we might be experiencing some difficulties, stirred up feelings.

I have worked for a charity supporting adults with complex mental health needs for many years. In my work we use groups as the main vehicle for support and change. This allowed me to witness what I have also experienced in my personal life – that groups can be challenging and painful, but also  transformative and enriching

I am a Special Education Teacher and Clinical Psychologist, and have experience of working with children and adults in a variety of settings.
