Lucie Oliver - Humanistic Counsellor

There are many reasons why people decide to engage with therapy and the experience is unique for everyone. Maybe you feel overwhelmed by your emotions or disconnected from them. It might be that you would like some support to process a life event, or relationship challenges that feel difficult to hold on your own. Perhaps different ‘parts’ of you want different things and that conflict prevents you from moving forward. My role is to listen and hear you fully, working to understand what it is like to be in your shoes. Both my personal and professional experience have taught me that therapy can be transformative, allowing us the freedom to be ourselves and work towards positive, lasting change.

We will work at a pace that suits you and I will support you to develop your self-awareness and offer challenges where it might be useful. My training is integrative, which means I draw on a range of therapeutic modalities including person centred therapy, gestalt, transactional analysis and attachment theory (I will readily explain these approaches in more depth if you would like me to). I have also learned the value of working relationally in the therapy room. This means reflecting on how we interact as two people, which can be a rich seam for exploring how you might then relate to people in your day to day life. In my experience, this can be extremely useful for identifying blind-spots (which we all have) in the way that we engage with other people.

I also work using a sand tray as a creative alternative to a purely dialogical process.

I am a fully qualified and experienced therapist and a member of the BACP, whose ethical framework I adhere to. I offer short and long term therapy, working with adults aged 18 - 80, counselling trainees and qualified therapists. I have a background in education and prior to joining New Road Psychotherapy, I worked for the bereavement service at St Barnabas Hospice in Worthing.

I have worked and continue to work with anger, anxiety, low self-esteem, ASC, bereavement/loss, depression, family dynamics, fertility, birth stories, parenting, relationship issues, illness, cancer, mid-life identity, ageing, stress, trauma, shame, PMDD, peri-menopause/menopause symptoms.
