David Cuff - Humanistic Counsellor

About David

I am a fully qualified humanistic counsellor and experienced coach with a faith in the human potential to develop in a positive direction. I believe we have our own path to cut through the woods in the unique life journey we are in. In the counselling process I will be a confidential companion for a part of your journey; a process which might help you navigate some of the challenges.

For all the amazing things that life can offer I believe it is often a struggle just to be a person. We are thrown into this world and we experience things which can negatively effect us or hold us back. We are also often faced with relational, family, religious, peer group or societal pressures to be somebody or do something that doesn’t feel okay  inside. For many of us there is also the pressure of economic survival in a system where nothing comes easy and the threat of meltdown hangs over us.

I believe we are ultimately alone and vulnerable in all this, with resources to cope and thrive. Other people can and do help us feel loved and valued yet also the reverse. In our interior life we may agonise over our behaviours, choices and the quality of our relationships. We must live with grief, uncertainty and major disappointments. We can become overwhelmed by emotions and/or feel detached from them. We can struggle with authenticity, anxiety and depression and/or experience states of being where we don’t recognise ourselves.

I do not want to fix people, I won’t tell clients what to do and I don’t judge others. I take a non-discriminatory, LGBTQI+ affirmative, experiential Person Centred counselling approach. This is a relational, holistic approach, which is alive to all aspects of self; supporting a person’s forward momentum in the process of becoming what we can be. This approach is a process that respects all of our senses and processes, that enquires on what a person is experiencing in the moment and draws on our own wisdom about self.

I hold the BACP professional qualification at Post-Graduate level in Humanistic Psychotherapeutic Counselling from the University of Brighton. As a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, I practice within their ethical framework.
